Our overall #1 rated Streamer webcam

Logitech C922 Pro Streamer Webcam
  • Can fit on monitor or tripod
  • Full-HD Streaming
  • 2 Stereo Microphones

Resolution: 1080p | Features: Background removal, Low- and auto-light correction, 720p/60fps video while streaming, autofocus

Logitech is known as the king of webcams, offering the widest selection on the market. The Logitech C922 Pro is the perfect webcam for a streamer. This webcam offers you the option to stream in 1080p at 30 frames per second or in 720p at 60 frames per second. The camera has 2 stereo microphones, it still performs great in low-light environments and it comes together with the Logitech stand.

The C922 isn't flawless. I recommend using a green screen to make sure the background removal feature works at its best. Overall the webcam is still one of the best choices you can make as a streamer.

Top 5 best webcams

Short on time? Take a look at my current top picks for webcams:

What is a webcam for streaming?

Streaming is an interactive medium. Wether you stream on Twitch, Mixer, YouTube, or any other platform. Most streamers use a webcam to interact with their audience. It allows you to express your current feelings while playing a game, in high definition, depending on the webcam you use.

There's a few streamers that get away with no cam. Most of the times these are streamers that already have a massive audience built and they just get away with it. It's cool as an audience to see who's playing games on the other side. Without a webcam, you lose all of the visual information that helps viewers connect with you. Not impossible to overcome, but you’ll have to work even harder to convince your viewers to stay. I'd tell you from what I've seen, you're gonna want a webcam.

How much does a good webcam cost?

The price of a webcam depends on many factors. First of all there is a difference between a streaming webcam and a work/life webcam. Do you want to offer your audience nice high definition streaming quality, like 720p or 1080p or maybe even 4K? Do you require various special features; Smart auto-focus and exposure, AI-enabled facial tracking, image stabilization, color correction, noise cancelling, and more ... Below a few of those features in more detail.

Smart-auto focus and exposure

Stop losing focus in the middle of live streaming and videos. Auto-exposure is finely tuned so you look always great in a variety of lighting conditions.

AI-Enabled Facial Tracking

AI-enabled facial tracking delivers accurate focus and exposure no matter where you’re positioned.

Image stabilization

Reduces blurring associated with the motion of the camera during exposure.

Color correction

Adjusting the colors to make them as accurate as possible to give your audience the best streaming quality.

Wide Angle lens

Having a wider angle lets you broadcast or record at a wider angle so there's no need to crowd around in front of your webcam to make sure everything is on screen.

What should you look for in the best Streamer webcam?

To stream online you should always consider using an external webcam. Below you can find a few of the most important features you need to look out for when buying a webcam for streaming.

Resolution

Having a high resolution webcam nowadays is a must. You must be able to deliver your audience a high quality and high definition capture of yourself. The lower the resolution the messier and unclear the image looks. Go at least for a 720p resolution or higher. A webcam with a 1080p resolution is of course better and delivers a better experience.

Frame rate

Same as the resolution, a high frame rate is better for streaming. A lower frame rate creates stuttering images and has more possibility to freeze.

Lens

The lens is always important on your webcam. Choosing a glass lens over a plastic one is always best and it increases performance.

Auto-Focus

Most people don't sit still all the time. Auto-focus makes sure you are always in focus while moving during streaming.

High Definition Versus Ultra High Definition

Streamers mostly capture their stream in high definition. Especially when you share your clips online viewers like to see it happening in high quality. Resolution goes from 720p to 1080p and some, more expensive webcams, offer 4K.

How to setup a webcam for streaming?

It's important to setup your newly bought webcam correct to give your audience the best online streaming experience. There are various streaming softwares you can use to stream online. Some of them will be covered in other future articles on prostreamercontent.com.

One of the most used broadcast software amongst streamers is Open Broadcaster Software (OBS). Basically it captures any content that you add into a scene and records/broadcasts. This content can be audio, your webcam or any item that plays on your screen..

Can I use my Phone as a webcam?

Yes, you can. I don't dive into details on how you can use your phone as a webcam, but it's possible. You'll need to install an APP on your phone to get it working and depending on your phone the quality might not be suitable for streaming. Android and Apple offer each their own solutions.

I don't recommend using your phone as a streaming webcam because you can't benefit from all the special features a webcam has. A webcam is made recording and broadcasting. If you choose to use your phone as a webcam, make sure you hook up your phone to an external power source. Running the webcam APP frequently drains your phone battery.

Best webcams for streamers reviewed

Resolution: 1080p | Features: Background removal, Low-light correction, 720p/60fps video while streaming, Stereo audio, autofocus, auto light correction

Pros

  • Industry-leading image quality
  • Background removal
  • Full-HD streaming
  • Stereo microphones

Cons

  • Sold out almost everywhere
  • No external microphone support
  • Fairly expensive

Resolution: 1080p | Features: Ring light, Full HD at 30 fps | FOV: 81 degrees

The Kiyo is a streaming camera through and through. It also offers 1080p streaming at 30 frames per second and 720p streaming at 60 frames per second. A great bonus for the Kiyo is the light ring. This brings a noticeable difference while streaming. Overall a great webcam but a bit over priced in its range.

Pros

  • Full HD resolution at 30fps
  • LED light ring

Cons

  • No external audio support
  • High price (in its range)

Resolution: 4K Ultra HD, 1080p or 720p | Features: 4K recording, 5X HD Zoom

With a 4K recording resolution the Logitech Brio is great!. 4K streaming goes at a  maximum of 30 frames per second. But if you’re willing to downgrade to 1080p, you can stream at 60 frames per second. It is more expensive than your regular 1080p webcam, but that’s expected given that it’s one of the better webcams for streaming.

Pros

  • 4K Ultra HD
  • Up to 90 frames per second
  • Windows Hello

Cons

  • Could be overkill for some users

Resolution: 2160p | Features: 4K recording, Live video and audio editing, Bluetooth 4.1 | Frame rate: 30fps

The Mevo Plus is a great webcam for streamers that are often streaming on locations, hence being portable. You can connect it with your mobile phone and use it for streaming for about an hour before you drain its battery. It's a quite expensive webcam but it's surely worth it.

Pros

  • Purpose-built for live streaming
  • 4K resolution
  • Nice design

Cons

  • Expensive for single-purpose camera
  • On the expensive side

Resolution: 1080p | Features: Colour correction, hi-fi microphone, Skype

Not only or not at all live streaming? The Microsoft Lifecam Studio is for professionals and daily use. It has 1080p, but it doesn’t let you stream video at that resolution, it will only go up to 720p when streaming. The biggest drawback of this webcam is the lower resolution when streaming. The downside is that it only works on Windows.

Pros

  • Wide field of view
  • TrueColor technology

Cons

  • Corporate
  • No stream at 1080p
  • Only Windows

My top pick: Logitech C922 Pro
